Updates on Tyler
Well, I wanted to give a quick update on Tyler. He is improving so much. He smiled at some of us yesterday, he can lift his arms as well as his legs. He is getting strong enough now that they have to restrain his hands so that he doesn't try to pull the tubs out of his mouth. He was able to breathe on his own for about an hour. But then he got tired and they had to hook the ventilator back up. That is to be expected though. They are taking it baby steps at a time. The nurse asked him to swallow and he swallowed. Whenever the nurse asks him to open his eyes he will open his eyes. Pretty much if the nurse asks him to do anything he will do it. It is truly amazing. He yawned for us a couple times yesterday as well as had the hiccups. When I was at the hospital last night he was wide awake. He obviously can't focus on us yet, but he had his eyes open the whole time we were in there. Whenever I stopped talking and stepped back he moved his head and almost forward to try to find me. He did that a few times. It's amazing to me that he knows when we stop talking and when we left. When we were trying to leave him yesterday it was almost as if he didn't want us to go. He would move his head almost forward pleading for us to stay. That's just what it seemed like anyway. So, we stayed a little bit longer for him. We know without a doubt that there are angels with him. When we were in there with him, he moved his head looking up as if he was following somebody. It just gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. But, obviously we are still being very cautious because we still don't know what will happen. We are prepared for whatever comes our way.

That is so great that he is making progress. It is very customary for people to go back on the vent. My Mom made several tries before she could be off it completely. So don't be discouraged. What was the worst though was each time they had to turn it back on they recorded "fail" on her chart. That was very discouraging. So if they can just point out to him that he went longer than the last time and encourage him it will go a long way. We're still praying and wishing we were there to help in some way.
Love,
Mom
